National F1 Schools Competition

National F1 Schools Competition

ACT Public School Photo of the Week for Week 7 comes from Melba Copland Secondary School, where this week two teams from the school have been competing in the National F1 Schools Competition!

More than 56 teams from across Australia and New Zealand gathered for the competition this week. Team Potentia and Team Storm Racing (pictured) are taking part from Melba Copland, the only ACT public school represented at the event.

The F1 in Schools STEM Challenge, established by REA (Re-engineering Australia Foundation) in Australia in 2003, is multi-faceted and multi-disciplined. Students follow a pathway of engineering and manufacturing disciplines: design, analyse, test, make and race. They are provided with access to real-world technology and aim to become proficient in areas such as coding.

The program also aims to develop skills in problem solving, project management, communication, presentation, teamwork, innovation and collaboration. Students involved in the program have told us the skills they have learned have also flowed on to improve their success across their other school subjects.

Well done to all involved!
